Conducts assessments and analyzes relevant factors to recommend placement in appropriate jail or community services; and performs related duties as required. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff's Office (ACSO), Court Services Bureau.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSThe incumbent performs complex, sensitive and varied work under general direction. The position will be required to exercise discretion and independent judgment to accomplish work.SHIFT INFORMATIONGenerally Monday - Friday, day shift hours, with some flexibility required. Essential Functions
    • Provides group education to inmates in the Ada County Jail to include CBT, substance abuse, employment skills and creative expressions;
    • Provides group education to participants at the in the Ada County Community Transition Center to include CBT, substance abuse, employment skills and creative expressions;
    • Develops transition plans, helps inmates transition to outside community-based services;
    • Finds, screens and acts as liaison between the ACSO and community providers;
    • Participates in evaluating the effectiveness of in custody classes and programs;
    • Maintains individual inmate documentation in regards to classes and case management;
    • Answers inmate requests in reference to ACSO programs and community resources;
    • Facilitate risk/needs assessment to assist in class/program placement and case management needs;
    • Coordinates programming dorms education-based classes and morning accountability meetings;
    • Reports compliance or noncompliance of inmates to referring judges, probation officers, and/or other appropriate external partners;
    • Schedules and participates in inmate education disciplinary reviews;
    • Maintains jail community resource libraries;
    • Performs related duties as assigned.Job Requirements
      • Bachelors degree in psychology, social science, criminal justice, sociology or a related field with preference for credentials in chemical dependency and/or Idaho or other state certification as Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or equivalent experience;
      • Knowledge of best practice treatment of chemical dependency, modern treatment services, and cognitive-behavioral programs;
      • Knowledge of interactive journaling preferred;
      • LSI certified preferred;
      • Skill in effective group facilitation;
      • Skill in working with resistant, manipulative and disruptive populations;
      • Ability to balance consistent program delivery while maintaining jail security and appropriate ethical boundaries with inmates;
      • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, inmates, county and state officials, and officials of other entities associated with the Ada County Sheriffs Office;
      • Ability to independently plan, organize and accomplish work assignments;
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality;
      • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.Other Requirements
        • Attends regular staff meetings and works in conjunction with staff of the Ada County jail;
        • Must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to entrance on duty;
        • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
        • This position requires working a flexible work schedule based on program delivery needs, including evenings and weekends.Work Environment & Physical Demands
          • Work is performed primarily in a jail facility; the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
          • Position frequently requires a combination of sitting and standing to accomplish tasks and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.;
