YOUR POSITION WITH TNC

The Nature Conservancy in Idaho seeks a Climate Program Manager to lead our climate teams efforts to build support with policymakers, influential constituencies, and communities in Idaho that ultimately leads to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and enhanced natural climate solutions. S/he will work with staff from the external affairs, communications, science, development and conservation program teams to execute Idaho climate strategies that align with TNC-wide goals. S/he will identify and support actions and policies that create economic opportunities and incorporate natural solutions to help make climate strategies politically viable, achievable, and locally relevant. S/he will identify and implement tactics to advance our conservation work through communications, procuring strategic media coverage, and leading outreach efforts to influence key political and community allies. S/he will be a leading voice for climate within TNC and with external partners and policy makers.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

* Report to the Deputy State Director, serve as a member of the Idaho Chapters Conservation Leadership Group with strategic and partnership responsibilities. * Develop and execute strategies to broaden support in Idaho for action on TNCs climate priorities. * Develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, conservation organizations, and/or industry. * Strengthen TNCs role as an effective, credible, bipartisan partner on climate solutions. * Influence the outcome of policy and/or corporate initiatives at the local, statewide, and regional levels. * Align Chapter strategies with those of TNCs North American Region, Worldwide Office, and other chapters with parallel approaches. * Share information and coordinate strategies with TNC in other states, regional, and Worldwide Office programs. * Conduct research and represent TNC to a variety of constituencies and stakeholders (public, private, government, non-government agencies, academia); and engage these groups in developing and implementing strategies that advance climate policies. * May manage projects and teams involving research and analysis on a broad range of topics related to climate policy, such as public opinion surveys and economic analysis. * Provide research and policy analysis in support of legislative, corporate and/or policy priorities. * Track climate policy developments and science relevant to Chapter strategies and opportunities for expanding climate work. * Coordinate with other Program Managers on climate-related strategies and tactics and communicate the collective impact of our climate mitigation and adaptation strategies. * Provide policy communications support to our three conservation initiatives via project teams: Idaho climate action; conserve land and water; and healthy soils, clean water. * Prepare program materials including presentations, memos, and other communications. * Develop, manage, and deliver public or private climate educational programs, briefings, and events. * Organize legislator and congressional tours with TNC staff, trustees, community partners, and donors to advance conservation priorities. * Organize receptions and events, with focus on legislators, congressional members, and community leaders. * Assist with program budget development and meeting fundraising goals. * Ensure program compliance with internal policies and external requirements. * May supervise volunteers, interns, or temporary staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelors degree and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Fluency in English. * Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive reporting structure. * Experience with legislative, planning, policy or corporate initiatives at two or more of the following levels: local, state, national or international. * Experience presenting to and communicating with government or corporate staff and/or program leadership. * Experience working with partners, government agencies and the corporate sector.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural experience appreciated. * Experience being on or leading project teams. * Experience, coursework, or other training in business, sustainability, or fundraising. * Experience coordinating complex projects in a decentralized organization, working across teams, operating units and functions to achieve optimal results. * Experience building networks or organizational capacity, facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders. * Experience implementing and evaluating communication and engagement plans/strategies. * Familiarity with communication technologies and best practices. * Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight. * Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion.

This position requires a valid driver's license and compliance with the Conservancy's Auto Safety Program. Employees may not drive Conservancy-owned/leased vehicles, rental cars, or personal vehicles on behalf of the Conservancy if considered "high risk drivers."
