Job Summary/Basic Function:
To manage the security officer program for the campus and supervise security officers. Assist with non-emergency events and overall campus security operations, including but not limited to, budget, administration, personnel, information systems, general office management, training, community relations and education, building security assessments, and policy development.

Level Scope:
Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.
Essential Functions:
Leadership and Management of the Security Unit
--- Recruit, Supervise, and Evaluate Staff
--- Includes the hiring, positive recognition, discipline, and termination of Security Officer Supervisors and Security Officers.
--- Manages employees' scheduling, work assignments, communication, and personnel development.
--- Evaluates employee performance, gives regular feedback, and conducts annual performance reviews.
--- Develops and maintains the security officer training program including the new hire training program, annual training, regularly scheduled officer meetings, in-service training, any online training programs, and off-campus training opportunities.

Policy and Procedure; Standard Operating Procedures
--- Works with Public Safety leadership to ensure there is no conflict between University Policies, Public Safety policies, and unit policies, as well as state and federal laws.
--- Develops, maintains, implements, and improves all Security Unit policies and procedures and identifies any training needs while ensuring compliance.

--- Oversees the security unit budget including; maintenance, and procurement of security officer uniforms; equipment including uniforms, personal safety equipment, medical supplies, emergency response supplies, radios, and vehicles.
--- Insures inventory control and accountability for purchases.

Officer Documentation
--- Manages the security officer's daily event log and incident report writing program and ensures all reports are accurate and free from content or grammar errors.
--- Manage the campus exclusion program and ensure the information entered into the database is accurate, relevant, and approved based on officer reports.

Officer Patrol, Response, and Community Contacts
--- Responds to community support requests, suggestions, complaints, and concerns; conducts investigations when necessary; and provides appropriate feedback.

Event Operations
--- Coordinates with the Event Security Operations Manager to schedule security officers and/or security supervisors for on-campus events.

Public Relations
--- Responsible for building functional working relationships with campus, community, and internal and external partners to include; attending security-related meetings, engaging in ongoing professional development, serving on cross-functional working groups, and managing the Department of Public Safety Building Security Assessment program.

--- Partner with the Event Security Operations Manager to assist with event security operations as necessary.
--- Oversees the Security Unit's operations and management in the absence of the Associate Director.
--- Engages in Departmental problem-solving for organizational issues; makes recommendations for Department efficiencies and advancement.

--- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
--- Good knowledge of the National Incident Management System and Incident Command System principles and concepts.
--- Currently certified in First Aid/CPR/AED
--- Experience training others in security related topics
--- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
--- Detail-oriented and highly organized with strong analytical skills
--- Strong leadership and management skills, ability to manage conflict
--- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and other various personnel/agencies
--- Ability to respond appropriately and in a timely manner to emergency situations
--- Ability to create and manage budgets, create report and present findings
--- Ability to supervise, evaluate, educate and train others
--- Ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential matters and information
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent, plus 5 years of security-related experience including 1 year of security-related management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
--- Experience managing a security program at an institution of higher education. (Preferred)
--- Experience planning, coordinating, and participating in workshops, training, and outreach programs, including developing a field training program for officers. (Preferred)
--- Experience in developing and leading a Security Program (Preferred)
--- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and other various personnel/agencies (Preferred)
--- Ability to respond to campus within 30 minutes for unplanned events and emergency response. (Preferred)
--- Strong leadership and management skills (Preferred)
--- Experience or knowledge of CPTED principles (Preferred) Salary and Benefits:
Salary of $65,000/per year, commensurate upon experience.
