    • Manages the Arts & Historys collection of cultural assets
    • Manages the budget and contracts for general and specialized conservation of collections
    • Provides preventative, corrective and emergency maintenance and conservation of assets
    • Provides oversight of the Cultural Assets Program Assistant, any temporary employees and multiple contractors
    • Supports programs and opportunities, events and general activities offered by the department

Essential FunctionsManages reconstruction of damaged, aged, or improperly fabricated public art projects. Provides assessment to and manages board and council decisions to de-accession (dismantle) artworks as they are deemed no longer suitable or safe as city inventory. Acquires estimates, bids, and insurance documents to hire a range of contract specialists; secures proper easements, legal agreements, and works with council and city managers to solve complex issues. Negotiates with outside agencies to acquire needed property or funds to fulfill project goals. Manages artist/maker warranties listed in the contract scope(s) terms and conditions. (35%)Provides guidance to the public art manager for the proposed fabrication and installation process to help ensure public art is appropriate for the site. Offers specifications and resources for material proposed to help meet the goals of each project by ensuring that the art installation meets accountability standards, is maintainable, and is integrated safely and functionally within the public realm. Once an asset is commissioned, the goal is to obtain the knowledge and support materials from the public art manager to properly care for the asset, place it on a schedule for long-term care and manage the details of each specific media used in its creation within its new site and conditions. Oversight of easement requisitions, change orders, and staff reports in alignment with departmental needs. Drafts contracts, scope of work documents, payments, and schedules. Coordinates the installation and rotation of the portable art collections. (25%)Works closely with private property owners and public property managers, redevelopment agencies, business associations, and officials regarding financial investments in City of Boise cultural asset collections. Provides conservation assessments, insurance records, and safety risk evaluations. Manages conservation efforts through assessments, documentation, and storage. Prepares each asset for storage, transport, and installation. Institutes contractual services for maintenance of city cultural assets as well as hands-on treatments in both conservation and maintenance. Works in tandem with City of Boise legal, facility maintenance, and purchasing managers to outside agencies and vendors that interface with the cultural assets. Oversees the work of temporary and part-time staff on database entry and art maintenance. Maintains collection records. Provides archival database records, and manages the files, database, and image bank related to the production of assets. Provides support for any exhibits related to the department goals. Coordinates weekly, monthly and annual condition assessment of the permanent collection, and formulates maintenance schedules. (20%)Assists with public cultural programs. Provides tours and tour opportunities through staff management. Assists with interpretive material for publishing on the internet, digitally, and in print. Develops GIS data for open source management.       • Bachelor's degree in an arts-related field with an emphasis in education methods and/or focus on arts conservation, and
      • 2 years experience in maintenance and conservation of public art and/or developing educational programs, and/or
      • An equivalent combination of education and/or experienceLevel of Knowledge:
        • Functional knowledge of tools and skills in use, storage, care and safety
        • Art collection maintenance and preservation techniques
        • Public art policies and procedures
        • Safety procedures with respect to art fabrication and installation
        • Effective communication and presentation techniques
        • Office practices and procedures
        • Spreadsheet, database, and word processing software packages
        • Preparing, monitoring and maintaining project accounting records, budgets costs and schedules
        • Preparing and analyzing data and comprehensive reportsAbility to:
          • Utilize personal computer software programs affecting assigned work and in compiling and preparing spreadsheets and reports
          • Utilize good communication skills and convey information in a clear and effective manner both verbally and in writing

          • Guide tours and effectively communicate the mission of the public arts program as well as the curatorial practices involved in the maintenance and conservation of public art; effectively supervise contract staff and volunteers

            • Master's degree in an art-related field with an emphasis on museum conservation practices
            • 2 years experience overseeing maintenance and preservation of a large art collection
            • Experience with CMS web software, with collections management software, and contact database software
            • Experience recommending and monitoring budgetsLicensing And Other Requirements
