Overview
St. Luke's Health System is seeking a highly collaborative,
results-driven nurse leader for our Boise Director of Surgical
Services .
Position Summary:
This position supports the overall operational management and
business development of a busy and complex surgical services
department, that serves more than 17,000 cases/year in general
surgery as well as the sub-specialties of cardiac, vascular,
thoracic, oncology, plastics, neuro, brain, ENT, robotics,
pediatrics, and pediatric trauma. This role has 9 direct reports
with a total oversight of 320 total staff across:
21 Operating Rooms
3 CVOR's (and expanding)
2 Surgery Centers
POHA
Post-anesthesia (PACU)
Sterile processing
The Boise Operating Room serves all specialties outside CVOR and
L&D. As the largest OR in the health system, the Boise OR
supports the highest acuity patient population in Pediatric Trauma,
Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Robotics, ENT, OMF, Plastics, Urology,
Bariatrics and General surgery. The facility is co-located with
both the region's Children's Hospital and the Cancer Institute.
The Boise PACU is a 43-bed unit that cares for patients recovering
from anesthesia. This unit has a diverse patient population from
children togeriatrics.
TheBoise POHA includes 22 patient bays (17 adult/5 pediatric) to
prep and monitor patients before surgery.
The CardioVascular Operating Room (CVOR) is the heart and vascular
specialty OR, serving cardiothoracic, thoracic, vascular and
endovascular service lines. The unit has one surgical hybrid room
in addition to three operating rooms.

Responsibilities
Provides clinical and professional oversight for areas of
accountability and supports strategic priorities withinestablished
guidelines.
Participates in developing the operating units plan for recruitment
and retention of nursing resources.
Develops operational plan in collaboration with each department's
manager, for goals, measures and targets in alignment with overall
goals of the organization. Assists in the preparation and
submission of annual operating budget.
Mentors Nursing Manager in development of leadership skills,
fiscally accountable staffing/scheduling practices, professional
development of staff and outcomes-based practice. Builds trust with
nursing team through visibility.
Collaborates with leadership and staff to promote the delivery of
safe, effective and quality patient care and ensure standards of
best practice are followed.
Utilizes evidence to implement clinical changes and the delivery of
patient centered care.
Initiates and fosters continuous improvement within departments.
Identify and resolve patient/customer satisfaction issues and
complaints.
Ensures compliance with regulations governing
hospitals/area/service and practice/area/ service. Ensure that
policy, procedures and standards are developed, implemented and
maintained.
Translates SLHS strategies and initiatives into daily
operations.
Communicates program priorities, policies, and procedures as it
relates to the strategic growth to clinical and SLHS
leadership.
Participates in established and maintaining communication between
ancillary departments, physicians, nursing personnel and other
health care professions.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelors' degree in nursing
Experience: 10 years' of relevant experience (ie, progressive
leadership responsibility, oversight of complex surgical
environments, etc)
Licenses/Certifications:RN license Idaho
