Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 15 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NRP Stable Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Experience in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum care. Circulating experience required; triage experience strongly preferred. Ability to titrate drips. Description: The unit includes 10 labor and delivery beds and 2 operating rooms for C-sections. There are 4 triage beds and 10 postpartum beds available. An average of about 120 births occurs each month. Nurse-to-patient ratios follow established guidelines, primarily 1:1 in Labor and Delivery and 1:6 for couple care in Postpartum. Common patient conditions include laboring patients at 32 weeks and greater, elective and medical induction of labor, stable antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and well newborns. Charge nurses, resource RNs, and house supervisors are available on each shift. There are nursing assistants/surgical techs present on the unit a few days each week, along with unit clerks available 24/7. An OB hospitalist and midwives are on call 24/7, and a Neonatologist can respond within 15 minutes. Anesthesia services are available around the clock. The electronic fetal monitoring system used is GE Connect. Shifts are typically 12 hours, with scheduling based on unit needs. There are no call or standby requirements, but travelers may be needed to float to similar units as necessary. Scrubs are provided for staff, with a dress code of blue scrubs. Unit-specific orientation will be customized based on each traveler, typically spanning several shifts.
