Job Type Seasonal / temporary Salary Details There is a living allowance of $13,992.00 dispersed evenly throughout the 11 month term. This comes to approximately $1,272.00 monthly, before taxes. This is an AmeriCorps service position through the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute AmeriCorps Program. Members selected provide service to communities with unmet environmental needs. This is an 11 month term position. Member will work 30-40 hours per week to complete 1700 hours over the course of 11 months. The position will start October 2, 2019 and end August 30, 2020. Members will earn a living allowance. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain work experience in an environmental field. The sponsoring organization will adequately train the individual to complete the required service. The Project Sponsor for this position is: Land Trust of the Treasure Valley located in Boise, Idaho. Position Summary: AmeriCorps member will be assisting in the development and delivery of native plant environmental education programs and service projects for area schools and community members. This native plant education program includes strong hands-on and place-based components to engage learners in meaningful education for the protection of natural resources through in-classroom presentations/lessons and youth environmental service learning projects. The member will also support a native plant nursery operation that provides plant material for restoration and trail maintenance projects throughout the region. The position assists with all aspects of the nursery operation, including potting, quality control, irrigation, organization, planning and pest and disease monitoring. The goal is to help provide high quality plants for the program's restoration activities through engaging the community and recruiting volunteers to help collect native seed, propagating, repotting and maintaining plants. The AmeriCorps member will coordinate and collaborate with these partners to help recruit volunteers to work to complete invasive plant surveys and removal along with completing monitoring and survey counts of rare plants. This work helps to increasing local awareness and community engagement while addressing the impacts of local area growth. Essential Functions/Member Activities: - Provide hands-on environmental education curriculum and activities to local area schools and learning center. - Steward plant materials for stewardship restoration projects. - Engage and direct community volunteers on implementing project-specific support. - Recruit, coordinate, and celebrate student and community volunteers. - Data collection and reporting project activities and outcomes. - Log, support, and coordinate with the Land Trust to recognize/celebrate volunteers' contributions - Complete and submit all necessary AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner. - Attend and complete all AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, training's, team meetings and national service days Requirements - Must be at least 21 years of age. (For AmeriCorps, members must be at least 17.) - Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident. - Must possess high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving award. - Must be able to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying. - Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through PCEI. - Must complete and submit all necessary PCEI AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner. - Must commit to and attend and complete all PCEI AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings and national service days. - Must wear PCEI uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events. - Must have a cooperative manner and the ability to serve as part of a diverse team. - Must have regular and reliable attendance and dependability. - Ability to work independently at times, show initiative, and communicate. - Ability to successfully pass a drug test (random or otherwise) conducted by project host site. - Ability to work within a school, with youth, and as a team member. - Perform in a professional manner while working with partnering organizations. - A valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation. AmeriCorps members can enroll in multiple terms of service that add up to the value of two full-time education awards. You can also serve additional terms but will not receive an additional education award. Member Qualifications and/or Required/Preferred Skills - Possessing a four-year degree from an accredited college or university or five years working experience in education and/or a related field. - A team-oriented, organized, self-motivated, creative, and personable individual who enjoys working with diverse groups. - Experience recruiting and supporting volunteers. - Knowledge, experience or desire to work growing and caring for with plants, trees and shrubs. Member Benefits Include - A taxable, monthly living allowance ($13, 992/full-time member paid over the term of service). - Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award of $6,095.00 for a full-time position. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used. - Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable.) - Basic medical insurance for those who qualify. Part-time members do not qualify. - Childcare allowance for those who qualify. Part-time members do not qualify. - Professional development, trainings and networking opportunities. - Qualified individuals with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Project Location and/or Transportation Needs: - Project host site is accessible by public transportation and/or bike. - Personal vehicle or bicycle is recommended to get to service host site.
